- GP Counsellors: $110 to $220
- Psychologists: $150 to $180
- Social Workers: $105 to $150
- Counsellors: $70 to $90
- Provisional Psychologist: $50 to $60
- Counselling students: Free
Payment can be made in cash or via EFTPOS. Diners Club and American Express cards are not accepted.
Mental Health Care Plans & Medicare rebates
Mental Health Care Plans are issued by General Practitioners (GPs) and allow Medicare rebates for a defined number of sessions per calendar year.
These plans are available for sessions with Psychologists and Social Workers. Medicare rebates are not available for sessions with counsellors.
Getting a Mental Health Care Plan
Make an appointment with your GP (half an hour is recommended) and ask to be assessed for a Mental Health Care Plan. Once this is registered with Medicare you will be able to access 6 sessions with a Psychologist or Social Worker in Mental Health and obtain a rebate from Medicare. You may also have a further 4 sessions after a review, making a maximum of 10 rebateable sessions in each calendar year.
Bulk-billing is not automatic, but is at the discretion of the practitioner.
